In my classroom I have noticed bullying and social isolation happening in plain sight Even though we spoke about this subject in class and determined that teachers do not usually witness bullying and social isolation because it happens when and where they are not looking I believe that young children in the classroom we are in do not try to hide bullying as much as the other kidsThere is a little girl in our classroom Emmerson she is one of those students that teachers just do not like She is manipulative or tries to be rude and she just does not respect or listen to authority When I first met Emmerson she was not the queen bee in the classroom because someone Ashley already had that title The first week in my placement was Ashleys last week and Primrose so naturally Emmerson tries to be the girl on top and in charge To do this Emmerson participates in peer victimization which is physical verbal or psychological abuse that occurs in and around school especially where adult supervision is minimal Graham 2011 p12 Although Ms Angela Ms Shuana and her interns address the bullying right as it occurs usually while the students are in centers we do not however focus on the children during the intervention Graham states that interventions for bullies dont need tolearn strategies to control their anger and their tendency to blame others for their problemsGraham 2011 p 15 The author of this article also said that it is best to the victim of bullying develop positive self-views Graham 2011 p 15Although Emmerson does not isolate herself from the class intentionally the children tend to do it for her Some of the girls would rather play with other children than be picked on by Emmerson Bullying can be seen as a form of social isolation Another form of social isolation that is constantly seen in the classroom is tattling Every student
