Canada is a country that everyone knows about a country where people feel privileged to live and a country that is recognized for its amazing living conditions health care and schooling However Canada isnt all as it seems especially to the aboriginal people that reside here I believe that how the colonial governments have treated the aboriginal people over the years is devastating From the harsh assimilation they went through the way they were treated and the positions the government took on the aboriginal affairs throughout history it is all very negative We need to come up with a solution to this still very prominent problem in Canada and try to make things right It all began hundreds of years ago when the Europeans came and pretty much took over they didnt really care too much for the aboriginals and wanted to fix and change them to be more like them Even though the aboriginals were there first they were automatically treated as the lower class In 1763 the British then took control and a government people relationship began although it didnt last long and after the aboriginals helped in the American Revolution and War of 1812 they were considered in the way and no longer important After this shift of opinion a more harsh approach to assimilation and taming the savage took place and in 1846 this idea of residential schools were created In result to the unfair treatment of the aboriginals and the horrible things done by the government right from the beginning it set us up for a long chain reaction of events leading to present day which is not too much better than before anyways The Aboriginal people experienced three main types of assimilation European migration reserves and residential schools All three are horrible and truly represent how twisted some of the government British and French ideas were Firstly when all the people migrated from Europe to Canada they brought
