Cannibalism has a variety of reasonings that include survival myths and ritual practices In some cultures ritual cannibalism can be a practice of social norm and done so as a cultural dance or a celebration This has been a practice for many decades and ceremonies have been preformed around the ritual of cannibalistic acts Aboriginal culture practices and beliefs have involved cannibalism in forms to celebrate the death of a member and as an act of dancing The online Oxford Dictionary defines ritual as a religious or solemn ceremony consisting of a series of actions performed according to a prescribed order Aboriginal peoples unique outlook on cannibalism has been a practice of many tribes as a result the ritual practice has been demonstrated for years as a ceremonial belief within an Aboriginal community There are stories that can support and go against the belief of ritual cannibalism in the Iroquois nation The online article Cannibalism Among the Iroquois and the Algonquian supports this idea by stating that the members of the Iroquois practiced the form of ritual cannibalism explaining the Iroquois who ritually ate members of other groups and the Algonquian who often practiced cannibalism because of starvation The Iroquois have a strong mythology supporting their cannibalistic practices whereas the Algonquian mythology is often designed to prevent cannibalism Other aboriginal groups practiced rituals such as the potlatch and supported ritual cannibalism as a healing practice There are very different views and reasoning as to why cannibalism was present in Aboriginal culturesThe potlatch was a ceremony described as the redistribution and reciprocity of wealth The potlatch also provided an opportunity for families to mark life occasions formally Births deaths adoptions weddings and other major events were and are formally witnessed Wikipedia During these ceremonies a dance was preformed that had cannibalistic acts included and Brackens detailed analysis shows how the description moves back and forth
