Access Physical Therapy and Wellness has 13 outpatient clinics located in the Northeast Pennsylvania and several counties in New York The Access facility I did my clinical rotation at is a very small clinic It currently has 2 PTs Innocent who was my CI and Ben a recent graduate and 1 PTA Kara that works two days a week for 5 hours a day They do not have any aides so the Customer Service representatives double as aides The patient load is very light most likely because they do not simply have the staff for it and there are has two other outpatient clinics within 7 miles Although there are not many patients there is some variety in the types seen at the clinic The youngest patient at the clinic was 13 and the oldest was in his 90s I worked with an older woman who had recently had a hip replacement a stroke victim trying to regain strength on the left side of his body and high school athletes recovering from injuries There was a copious amount of patients with ankle or foot injuries as well This is because Access works in conjunction with a podiatrist and refers many of his patients to Access The daily routine depended on what time I started in the morning When I started at 7am the morning was busy with patients in particular Medicare patients I would obtain heat packs set up the electrical stimulation machine or set up the stationary bike depending on what the patients first activity was I would also perform therapeutic ultrasound as well although many patients did not receive ultrasound I would then perform therapeutic massage on a good number of patients Some patients required joint mobilizations as well therefore I did not perform manual therapies on them because of Pennsylvania guidelines Access focused primarily on manual therapies and therapeutic exercises Due to the fact there was no aides I was responsible for
