Thesis While some people think that Holden should be given a second chance because of his rough childhood and the fact that the school didnt give him a fair warning of his expulsion I think that Holden should be expelled because he gives Pencey a bad reputation he is rude to his fellow students and is near failing all of his classes Although Holden wasnt given a fair warning of his expulsion he still deserves to be expelled Holden has no excuse for failing four of his five classes other than he doesnt care enough to try and succeed While Holden may have trouble dealing with the death of his brother that is no excuse for him to be rude to other kids At the same time Pencey is supposed to be turning boys into men b helping them to become better people By expelling Holden Pencey isnt fulfilling that responsibility But Holden is not even willing to help himself succeed so he should be expelled Holden should be given a chance because as a child Holdens brother died and as a result he couldnt focus in school as well as other children Since Holden never spoke to anyone about his brothers death it is possible that he developed an emotional problem from the trauma hes been through When Holden had to talk about the fact that he was failing most of his classes Spencer told Holden I flunked you in history because you knew absolutely nothing p 10 This shows how Holden doesnt focus during class because he is so distracted by his brothers death If Holden could focus in class with out thinking of his brothers death he could possibly do better in his classes It is also possible that the emotional problems that Holden developed from his brothers death kept Holden from doing his best in school As a result of Holden not being able to focus in school
