What would you consider special treatment Would not being marked late for showing up to a class three minutes late to a class be special Would being given an extra couple days to finish a project Student-athletes today are classified under the words special treatment due to the fact that teachers are willing to work with their schedules Not giving them completely different due dates but willing to give extra time to complete a project because they ask for an extension According to Theresa Smith a writer at About Pathway Communications there are around 400000 college student-athletes across the nation struggling with the same problems Smith The universities require student-athletes to attend school full time twelve credit hours The coaches set a higher expectation of their athletes and ask them to be present at every class If they are going to miss a class they must notify the professor and the coach to explain what their reason is for not attending that day Since the student-athlete is required to communicate with their professor they will form a type of relationship This relationship could lead to a little more leanness with due dates because the professor understands that the athlete is putting forth their best effort even with a cluttered schedule Most students see this as special treatment but in fact even a non-extra-curricular student could get this with they put the effort forth to connect with their professors Incoming students are under a lot of pressure due to the change in the environments the new responsibilities of being on their own for the first time and finding a way to do excellent time management In addition to all of these new pressures the heaviest weight is the colleges financial costs Athletes have more pressure bearing down on them then any regular student They have all the pressure of their sport and an even harder financial pressure due to the fact they do not
