As many natural philosophers believed in empiricism I believe in the theory that true knowledge comes from experience On my third year of junior high school I decided to join a Japanese high school as a new challenge The objective was to study Japanese as a Japanese citizen but also to experience a new culture by interacting with students from a Japanese background It may sound weird but the changes were pretty shocking as the systems were completely different from the American educational system Work was harder than expected as I hadnt covered the things other students had in junior high but I strived to work hard and adapt to the new environment Gradually I began to enjoy the differences for example the system where students stay in the classroom to take the next class rather than the students visiting the teachers room and began wondering about cultural differences on a global scale Last summer when I went to England on an exchange program there were countless times when people asked me about the politics food and social interests in Japan Some students even asked me about the anime culture and some people were interested in education or traditions and language I was delighted to share what I knew and was fascinated to listen to what they thought about England in return One that I found interesting was how some young people werent so supportive about having a queen and the fact that almost all students in my English class were willing to vote for a better politician However I learnt the most shocking but undeniable facts in geography class as we studied about urban and tourism In urban classes we looked into case studies for example Mumbai and researched the problems they were tackling in this case it was traffic congestion and how they were resolved and how costly they were One of the worse case studies we looked at was the Kibera slum
