Nick Carraway is a very unique character from what I tell from how Fitzgeralds writing style and the use of his literary devices and diction Nick came from a rather rich family and is more mature than others He was raised differently from others and is very well mannered He has learned greatly from his father whenever you fell like criticizing anyone remember not everyone had the same advantages you had Im inclined to reserve all judgments Since Nick is very quiet and well preserved people seek to him for trust and hears and sees a lot of secrets that others do not Such as Tom Buchanans mistress he sees what is going on but he keeps everything to himself FitzGerald characterized him as being tolerant open-minded quiet and a very good listener So that is why people can tell him more than others will hear This could create greater conflict throughout the novelNick Carraway plays an important role in the great Gatsby He is brought into the main conflict because of his cousin Daisy Jay Gatsby is infatuated with her so to impress her he uses his vast fortune to win over Daisys affection So if Gatsby wants to get a better connection with Daisy he has to go through nick to get closer to his true love Since Jay wants a love connection between the two Nicks is tossed into the mess because of his cousin Since Nick is so well trusted between almost all the characters they all trust him Such as the mishap in chapter 2 when Tom and others were getting drunk they all wanted Nick to like them and towards the end Tom breaks Myrtles nose He stays quiet and acts like he hasnt seen anything Throughout from what has happened in the novel you can tell the FitzGerald has put nick in a lot of conflicts Nicks main conflict was moving to New York because it is a
