The Shakespearean Romeo and Juliet is filled with many characters with many traits However the most memorable character who is also known as the Scene Stealer is Romeos best friend Mercutio The name is derived from the word Mercurial which means having an unpredictable and fast changing mood The word Mercurial itself is derived from the ancient Roman messenger god Mercury Mercutio is a kinsman to the Prince of Verona and a dear friend of Romeo He is neither a Capulet nor a Montague this allows him to float freely across both houses He is seen as a very witty yet loyal and loving to his friendsMercutios letter which he sent to Romeo on April 1st shows his concern for Romeo as he entreats Romeo to forget about his unrequited love for Rosaline He also tries provide an incentive for Romeo by inviting him to crash the Capulet feast This letter also shows the affection Mercutio has for Romeo with regards to his speech about love Even though Mercutio is an anti-romantic man he still tried everything he could to cheer Romeo up by speaking about what he is doing to love as he sinks himself down in his own sorrow Mercutios second letter which was also sent to Romeo was on April 2nd This message was regarding the incidents with Romeo at the party Mercutio strongly shows his sense of love bravery loyalty and honor towards Romeo by telling him about Tybalts letter to lord Montague and by begging to defend him at any cost He also shows his devotion to protect Romeo by telling him that he will gather Benvolio Balthazar and anyone else who would help Mercutio was very loyal and friendly with Romeo but he also had many other friends all over of Verona Mercutios third letter to Benvolio another one of his dear friends which was also sent on July 2 was also concerning the incidents which happened to Romeo
