Each day we wake up with something important or meaningful that we must do Everyones view of the world is very different but we all want to succeed at what we do When were young we get help from our parents and teachers to help solve important problems As we get older we see what other people in society view as important and try to find our own important things in life Whether we realize it or not it seems that society affects what we view as importantVygotsky believed that children need extra help in order to reach past their own potential He believed that if a parent or teacher gave advice to a child then they would have a better chance of solving a problem The child by themselves would not have been able to figure out the entire answer Feldman R 2010 Vygotsky called this theory the zone of proximal development To help put this theory into prospective Vygotsky suggests that two children might be able to say all the same colors but if a parent or teacher teaches one of the children the color purple that child now knows more colors than the other child Both children have the ability to learn more colors but they need to be taught the colors The zone of proximal development works in many different stages of a childs development Feldman R 2010Vygotsky had another theory that went along with his zone of proximal development which he called scaffolding His way of looking at scaffolding was that it helped support learning and problem solving that encourages independence and growth Scaffolding is a lot like zone of proximal development but the parent or teacher will instead gives them clues to help them solve a problem where as zone of proximal development focuses more on helping the child complete the task Feldman R 2010 An example of scaffolding would be if a child is reading a
