There are two things that are useful to assessing the childs behavior The first is how to observe To do this you can use measureable or observable behavior Observable behavior can be measured through your senses such as being seen heard tasted smelled or touched Observable and Measurable Behaviors 2013 Measurable behavior must be performed by an observer who is able to clearly determine whether the behavior is occurring count the occurrences of the behavior and the duration Observable and Measurable Behaviors 2013 The second item is to be able to use an observation technique to measure the childs behavior These techniques include frequency rate duration interval recording time sampling and anecdotal records Observation Techniques 2013 Since I was in 7th grade I have babysat for families when asked The first thing that parents ask every time they come home is How were they From there I have to give a report of what we did and how they acted After reading these articles I have realized that I what I was doing was performing a behavioral observation and analysis An example of this is there was a time when I was babysitting for a family and I was feeding the kids dinner The oldest child kept interrupting his younger brother while his younger brother was trying to talk The behavior I saw was both measurable and observable I could hear and see him talking and I could also count the number of times that he interrupted his brothers talking Next I needed to determine why he was behaving this way After telling Ben several times not to interrupt his brother his behavior did not change This had me puzzled as to why his behavior was not changing after I had told him what he was doing was wrong I started paying closer attention to
