This story is about a troubled youth named Cole Mathews who has arough life where his father beats him and his mother doesnt doanything about it she just watches it happen All his life he had beenin and out of juvenile detention centers recommended to a bunch oftherapists his last thing he had done was break into a hardware storeand trash everything he would not have been caught if he wouldnt havebeen bragging to everyone and a kid named Petter had told the cops thecops had came and talked to him at school and Cole found out who hadsnitched him out and smashed the kids head on the concrete until he wasbleeding so the cops had know that he was the one who had broken intothe store That was his last strike he had been placed into juveniledetentions until the law could figure out if they were going to placehim in real jail Coles parole officer had suggested that he could go to a programcalled the circle of justice in Alaska for a whole year on an island allon his own Cole didnt care about any program but he also did not wantto go to real jail So he agreed to it and made his parole officerbelieve he really wanted a change but he really didnt want to changeSo he had a meeting with the circle of justice and Peter had been thereand his lawyer was there also Peter had severe brain damage now hisspeech was very slow and stuttered he was terrified when he saw Colesitting in the circle at the meeting Cole had seen the fear in Peterseyes and laughed because Cole was happiest when he made people feel thatway His parole officer had pulled some strings and he was sentenced to1 year on the island in Alaska On the way over to the island he hadbeen thinking that he was going to escape and swim out into the oceanuntil he reached
