Community colleges are no longer two-year institutions anymore Many people go to community colleges for the lower prices and a sort of testing ground to see what they might do in life Recently the cost of California community colleges unit price raised by ten dollars from 36 to 46 and colleges are also cutting classes as well However proposition 30 passed in 2012 to restore some funding With the passing of Proposition 30 community colleges should add more classes which will allow students to finish their degrees quicker find classes that fit their schedule and employ more instructorsAll of the budget cuts for California community colleges have restricted students from graduating on a two-year schedule Only the students with priority registration can find open classes and those without are usually waitlisted According to the California Community College Chancellors Office every year there is around 472000 waitlisted students This is a huge problem for students who want to finish their degree on time For some students being waitlisted can cause pressure and stress because they do not know for sure whether they will be included in the class Many times students will find that the class that they want to attend does not fit into their schedule and there is no other alternative In addition students find that core classes that a majority of people need are usually the first ones closed The core or popular courses that have pre-requisites can fall a student behind a full year if he or she is unfortunate California community colleges need to address these problems in order to reduce the amount of waitlistsStudents are not the only ones affected by the budget cuts instructors of the colleges have their own problems as well Many instructors had to be laid off because of the budget cuts the instructors that were not laid of got reduced pay and reduced hours Many instructors only work part-time because there are limited positions and
