Both Atticus and Bob Ewell are important characters in the novel Compare and Contrast these important characters The novel TO KILL A MOCKING BIRD written by Harper Lee discusses the life of young 6-year-old girl named Scout Over the years we live Scouts journey which enables to enhance our understanding on the racist and unjust society of the 1960s Harper Lee reveals two significant characters Bob Ewell and Atticus Bob Ewell is a violent man and a father of 8 children he is usually portrayed as trash on the contrary Atticus is a descent man and is definitely qualified as a gentlemen Atticus and Bob Ewell differentiate through honesty and innocence while they resemble through prejudice Atticus is a very honest ethical and just man as shown numerous times in the novel For instance after the accident where both Jem and Scout were going to lose their lives not fully understanding of the situation insists Of course it was clean-cut self defense but Ill have to go to the office and hunt up Lee 300 Atticus being still confused thought that his son had intentionally killed Ewell Most people would have covered for their relatives however Atticus wanted to do the right thing drag his son to court and clear his name In contrast with Bob Ewell who is a corrupt character Ewell lies in repetition and then pays the price As hes being questioned by Mr Glimer he concludes his interrogation as he curses I seen that black nigger yonder ruttin on my Maryella Lee 190 This passage clearly demonstrates to the readers how dishonest Ewell is Hes blaming Tom Robinson of committing his own crimes since he knows that its his word of his so everyone will obviously believe white person rather than a black Atticus is willing to make a loved one go through rough times and stay truthful but Ewell prefers to sacrifice the life of an innocent man and save
