There are many different stories and movies which fall into the category of an Epic which is a story that narrates the endeavors of a hero Although many of these stories are based on different people cultures and based in a different setting they all share some important key ideals Most are based on one hero who saves entire cities and helps many people one of which is a film called The 13th Warrior This film closely follows the main events of the great Epic Beowulf The 13th warrior displays all the major elements of an Epic including the adventures of a hero and how he has conquered his enemy Although the main character in the film is different from that of Beowulf the events that take place within both stories and the actions of both heroes remain the same In the beginning of the movie we are informed about the main character Ahmed and of how he has been put on an errand to the northern lands due to being seduced by a woman He then runs into troubles with the Turks being saved by the North-men he is now taken to travel with them In comparison to Beowulf the events are not that similar until later when Ahmed goes to a village to help the people of Rothgar which is quite similar to when Beowulf traveled to High Hrothgar to help the people there Each hero travels to a similar place to help people whom have similar problems so far the stories are almost the same Many of the characteristics of an Epic are within the film The 13th Warrior including conflict between other characters in the film Ahmed must learn to conform to the culture of the Northern men while Beowulf must learn of Grendel and how to fight him In the film Ahmed must learn to fight like they do and being of the upper class it is quite difficult for
