Group IDescartes is writing in the time of epistemology In particular he is writing about modern epistemology Epistemology has to do with knowledge and freedom It comes from the Greek words episteme which means knowledge and logos which means discourse During the time they wanted to figure out the theory of knowledge and what knowledge really is He is also writing during the time of enlightenment which is an encounter of the dogmatic knowledge of the church with independent investigations that rely on ones rational faculties alone He wants to formulae knowledge on rational and not dogmatic principlesDescartes uses freedom as where people have the freedom to choose to do something or not choosing to do something He is the father of modern philosophy He says that people have human will or liberty of choice to do as they please At first he wants people to doubt all that they have come to know so that knowledge can be rebuilt on rational foundations People should go away from what they have come to know from everything that is not authoritative and make things more independent Descartes is concerned with theoretical judgment He uses religion to help illustrate the freedom that he wants from authority which seems kind of odd since most religions have something to do with looking up to a higher power or god With these things Descartes talks about empiricism and how it relates to people Empiricism is where our existence is more immediately or familiarly known through our mind then through our bodies Also it is that all knowledge comes by away of experience He talks about how I think therefore I am With this when you think you exist in someway If you are on this world then it does not matter what you believe you do play an important role in the world He wants people to be able to react freedom of God creation The more experience that you
