In Eudora Weltys work One Writers Beginnings she separates her childhood memories and experiences into three distinct sections I will also be dividing my writing into three separate groups based on something from one of Eudoras section that inspired a personal experience I had Just as in Eudoras novel I will entitle my sections Listening Learning to See and Finding a Voice So without further ado let the adventure beginIn the first section of One Writers Beginnings Eudora mentions a time when she and her father would go the yard look through the telescope and study the stars together My father could not have known I believed that when bending behind me and guiding my shoulder he positioned me at our telescope in the front yard and with careful adjustment of focus brought the moon close to me Welty 10 When I was younger and the news anchor or farmers almanac said a celestial spectacle was to be expected my whole family would obsess and prepare for the best viewing experienceMy dad would always pull his telescope out a week in advance As a small child I wanted nothing more than to find a stool and turn the knobs and adjust the settings myself My father is very possessive of his belongings and dirty children hands must not touch the perfectly sanitized surface of the telescope He would teach me the parts and talk about how he was going to view the stars in the best possible way The rest of the family would simply listen to all my father said and eagerly await the day that the celestial phenomenon was to happenI remember in one particular instance when a certain planet was supposed to be brighter than all the other planets and my dad told my family in immense detail how important it was going to be We would prowl the farm for hours trying to find the spot that would have no tree
