Many people today believe that myths and fairytales are the same thing A name thats changed through the ages Even thought both fall under the fantasy category there are differences between the two genres Fairytales and myths share certain characteristics that allow people to believe that they are the same thing essentially Like myths fairytales also contain a lot of symbolism violence and sexual undertones They are both also used for entertainment and moral lessons How the two teach you your moral lesson are very different In order for fairytales to make such a large moral impact they tend not to name their characters except with nicknames so that you can place yourself into that characters shoes This allows the moral lesson to resonate with the readers more In myths all the characters are given names however these names are the names of all the Gods from that era This made the Greeks and Romans listen to the moral lesson more because if the Gods can make those mistakes then so can theyThe Greeks and Romans created myths to explain certain occurrences in nature that they could not explain themselves Their make-belief stories were also used to explore the human psyche For example the myth of Narcissus and Echo explains how Echos came to be as well as explain what makes a person narcissistic These stories told them all about their own Gods and nature people used to believe these myths to be true These myths do not try to take you into another World they work to keep you in the reality of your everyday life Meanwhile fairytales tend to focus on moral lesson that need to be taught to children and adults alike In the case of The Little Red Riding hood the moral lesson is that women should not trust wolf like men no matter how sweetly they disguise themselves Also a large difference is the fact that Fairytales were always
