In the articles of Unsafe Driving in the Cell Phone Era and Driving Under the Cellular Influence Carnegie Mellon Research Shows Cellphone Use May Not Cause More Car Crashes both deal with the topic of using cell phones while driving but the two articles have different standpoints on the topic Unsafe Driving argues the point that cell phone usage is dangerous and increases the crash rate of automobiles while Cellular Influence argues that the use of cell phones has proven not to be dangerous and has not increased the crash rate of automobiles Overall Cellular Influence makes a better convincing argument using different studies and research that cell phone usage does not increase crash risk in automobilesAlthough Unsafe Driving says that cell phones have increased crash risk Cellular Influence shows evidence that there is no direct connection between cell phone usage and the amount of crashes For example researchers compiled data that shows there is not a direct connection between the time range of phone calls made and the amount of crashes that happened during the same time While the article Unsafe Driving claims that talking on the cell phone causes more car crashes because the driver is mentally distracted from the road they are not able to back up the argument with research where as Cellular Influence found research that proves their claim wrong Researchers compared data from across nine different states with the amount of calls made and the crash rates during the same time to find that there is no connection between the two proving that there is no increased risk of talking on the phone while driving Even though people have argued that talking on the cell phone is just as dangerous as drunk driving there is no evidence to back up their argument Research from Saurabh Bhargava set up an experiment in a setting that looked at cell phone usage while driving and he found that cell phone usage does
