Chapter 6 Living Under Fire focused on wartime diaries The wartime diaries differed from their letters home No one read them until after the war These diaries take you through their life and the struggles they went through This paper will reflect the life of three different soldiers and what they wrote in their diaries at certain times during the war There are also many similarities and differences between the three soldiers experiencesThese wartime diaries were only written at two moments at the end of the war One was the St Mihiel offensive in September and Meuse-Argonne offensive in October and November all of the year 1918 Elmer Straub a Sergeant and had already been through seven huge battles before writing these wartime diaries Corporal Eugene Kennedy was a 31-year old man that wrote about his way of life during this difficult time Captain John M Trible was the last man to write about these two harsh times during the war Not every soldier kept a wartime diary a lot of soldiers didnt have time for them The soldiers would talk about how it felt and what they were going through during this war It was very doubtful that a soldier would expose any secrets about their movements or proposals in their diaries In wartime diaries the men could write things down that they wouldnt necessarily share with their friends and family back home The diaries are actual events that they log daily over a period of time Some of their diaries are very detailed and others are very short and sweet Sometimes they dont get a chance to write a whole lot so they write what they can and move on with their busy day A letter home only happens every once in a while The letter home is bits and pieces of the diary that form
