Statement of the Problem An organized process to achieve creative solutions has been used in the graphic design field successfully for years The creative process is taught to graphic design students in many universities and colleges Using a creative process has proven successful for generating graphic options and unique ideas However in a photography curriculum the creative process is rarely broached Photographers for example do not typically use heuristic techniques such as sketching thumbnails brainstorming or other approaches for generating ideasPurpose and Potential BenefitThe purpose of this study is to discover methodologies of creative processes used by successful professional photographers and then to apply these methodologies to a curriculum for college-level photography students The potential benefit will be that the students will learn a process they can use to generate creative ideasLocation of StudyProfessional photographers will be sent a link to an online survey via email The college photography students will be tested at TAMUCSubjectsThe subjects are professional photographers and college photography students Methods and Procedures This paper is a distillation of a creative process for photographers through surveying successful professional photographers who practice in a variety of fields from studio photography to photojournalism The professional photographers will be interviewed via email containing a link to a SurveyMonkey survey with a set of questions that will be the same for all participants The questions are about sources they use for creative idea generation what inspires them how they are motivated and about their working methods and habits The questions also are about whether they do research work within a creative team involving other artists or assistants keep up with current world events and popular culture have been inspired by painters sculptors or other photographers and sketch or draw This researcher will ask how the medium of photography affects their work This researcher will also inquire about any personal interests or hobbies that may influence their work The participants will be able to make their choices
