Unites States involvement in Afghanistan has been in question since President Bush first decided to intervene to resolve domestic issues of the foreign nation Afghanistan is a Muslim country in Middle East Asia With the population of thirty million people Afghanistan has a lot of potential to prosper with plentiful resources Afghanistan as all other nations is a home to people from many different ethnicities chiefly the Pashtuns According to CIA World Book Pashtuns comprised of thirty-eight percent of the population making them an overwhelming majority of the population Second in line is Tajiks making up twenty-five percent of the population The minorities consists of the Hazaras and Turkmen who make up nineteen and ten percent of the population respectively cited in Filkins 2001 para 24 Afghanistan had not been a Republic nation until eight years before but when kings ruled the nation the minorities had been oppressed with heavy taxes and with labor responsibilities the trend continues in the modern democratic nation the minorities are still discriminated Minorities are the prime victims of ethnic violence and are left out of developmental programs After thirteen years of efforts United States has failed to establish ethnic equality in a nation size of one of its states Despite United States a model democratic country interventions and efforts it has failed to establish one of the basic principles of democracy in Afghanistan When Afghanistan became a democratic country in 2004 a new constitution was drafted which promised the minorities several rights and privileges The new constitution respects all the religions and states that the State protects religious freedom the constitution gives freedom to all of its citizens to follow any religion they would like to pursue Finding a place in constitution was one of the most important victories for the minorities in Afghanistan World Directory 2012 para 20 The Afghan constitution along with acknowledging other religious beliefs recognizes the minorities languages in the constitution as
