The debate of whether or not to compensate student athletes at the collegiate level is a highly controversial issue and has recently gotten more heated There are many people in support of each side of the matter and valid points can be made for each side With that being said I do not believe student athletes should receive compensation for their work at this level Athletes are given a great opportunity just being able to play at such a high level of competition If they succeed at that level they will have an opportunity to showcase their talents at a higher level Also in a way athletes are somewhat compensated Scholarships provide good amounts of money to those that are talented enough at the high school level So is there really a reason why they need an additional payment Some may say yes but I would challenge to give good reasons as to why they think that way For years athletes have been successful without the motivation of money every step of the way These players need to suck it up and go play for reasons bigger than the money aspectBelieve it or not there are many other reasons besides money why athletes play a sport No matter what sport is being played athletes play for much more than money This reminds me of a commercial featuring Derrick Rose an MVP basketball player In the commercial Rose states If you took away the money if you took away the fame the spotlight if you took away the lifestyle and all the things that come with it if you took away the flash what would you have left Everything He loves the sport that he plays so much that he would throw everything else away just for a chance to play basketball This is exactly how every athlete should be
