Country is not just music it is a way of life This is known to be said by many country folks but who and what is a country folk exactly Country folks are really defined as people raised in or living in a rural environment As time has changed the meaning still remains but the slang created more classifications as to what country folks are Now in todays era when thinking of country folks a few terms come to mind of what a true country person is Some terms that come across many peoples minds are hillbillieshicks rednecks or cowboyscowgirls All of which have been called common country folks at one time or another as it was the current way of living in the country side Although each of the terms generally defined with the same settings existing in rural environments they are just classifications and assumptions of a type of person or way of life they are not what they truly stand forWhen hearing the word hick or hillbilly I get two mental pictures One being that of uneducated people who are sitting on their porch eating hay drinking and wearing old tattered clothing The seconded being that paraded in Beverly Hillbillies of people being somewhat educated and somewhere between civilized and uncivilized and ready to fire a gun at anytime Movies have influenced my opinion on who what hicks and hillbillies are by showing them live in rundown trailer wearing tattered clothing no shoes communication skills that of a 6th grader marrying their cousins spitting chew and drinking moonshine In all reality hicks and hillbillies are educated but then go to work on farms and some even business places in the city they live in regular homes not the trashed trailer They wear relatively new clothing but do wear old trashed clothing to work outside in the fields as I would if I was to do yard work They dont all marry
