Critical Thinking Decision Making The study of biometrics has revealed that everyone is born with unique fingerprints eyes voice patterns and individual body aromas Like these individual characteristics internal methods we use to guide us in making good judgments and making constant daily decisions are unique to each individual Critical thinking and decision making are instilled in people through education and naturally learned activities we achieve on a daily basis However excellence in critical thinking and good decision making must be practiced and refined to be enhanced and beneficial to the user I will illustrate this by examining elements used to define critical thinking and decision-making Then I will compare the differences between the book definition and my personal interpretation of critical thinking and decision-making I will also discuss how they relate to each other and the benefits of being a critical thinker Finally I will identify how I see or relate to these processes during work each day Michael Scriven and Richard Paul interpret critical thinking as an intellectually disciplined process The method of actively and skillfully conceptualizing applying analyzing synthesizing andor evaluating information gathered from or generated by observation experience reflection reasoning or communication as a guide to belief and action I also learned that Robert Harris from Vanguard University of Southern California defines decision-making as the study of identifying and choosing alternatives based on the values and preferences of the individual making the decision The authors of the materials for this course say critical thinking is analytical and logical it evaluates ideas and identifies the most reasonable ones Critical thinking is clear precise accurate relevant consistent and fair They go on to define the decision making process as the process of sufficiently reducing uncertainty and doubt about alternatives to allow a reasonable choice to be made from a variety of courses of action considered My interpretation is that critical thinking means the ability to carefully consider and analyze with
