Dominican Republic Research and present the cultural influences and festivities of the chosen Caribbean country Cultural influences of the Dominican Republic The Dominican Republic is a very multicultural island located in the Upper Antilles that is uniquely blended with that of the European African and the native Taino Indian culture One of their most famous and favoured festival that showcases the rich culture of the Dominican Republic is their Carnival that takes place annually on their Independence Day This festival is celebrated around late February each year and is known for its colourful costumes which in most cases symbolize traditional and religious characters such as Calife Guloya and Diable Cojuelo The island was largely influenced by the Spanish and so they emanate the traditional myths that created their unique way of life and celebrations The festivity is enjoyed in most areas of the island with each town adding their individual flavour to it as both young and old part take in the party with family and friends The history behind the festival dates back to the mid-1500 when the Christians would allow their slaves to take get the wild out their system even though they consider to be pagan and at times themselves enjoy the festivities It is believed that the celebration consisted of the residents slaves at that time dressed themselves as Moors and Christians Evidence of this celebrations have been found in the ruins of La Vega Vieja proving that the Dominican Republic has been celebrating the festival from long agoExamine such aspects as the clothing food heritage history and religion Examining Clothing Due to the conservative nature of the Dominican Republic their way of dress truly reflects that of a respectable and traditional ensemble They pride themselves on looking neat and clean and in so doing have a desired dress code that is acceptable to all The men wear long pants and stylish shirts except in the
