In the book The Cultural Nature of Human Development Barbara Rogoffhighlights the understanding of culture being the basis of our lives The book shows human development through cultural processes Culture isan influence on everything we do and thats what I go on to show in thispaper The most basic everyday activities such as going out to dinnerwith friends can represent a variety of different cultural influences These influences are as natural and normal to us in this community asbreathing is to everyone therefore they go unnoticed as culturalactivities In a normal sociocultural activity that includes a group ofpeople generally it is common for mutual topics to be brought up thatway everyone in the group can participate in the conversation My recording takes place at a local pizza shop with my boyfriend andtwo mutual male friends The four of us met up to grab a quick dinner In this particular sociocultural activity going out to dinner thereare a variety of people this could take place with You could go out todinner with family co-workers neighbors usually people who you are atleast acquaintances with You normally would not go out to dinner with astranger nor would a group of small children go out to dinner together A clause in this activity is as I mentioned usually participants areexpected to know each other but it could be a blind date in which youwould have never met the person Going out to dinner includes lightresponsibility such as transportation and money therefore there isusually always at least one person who is at least 17 I say 17 becauseat that age you can drive you can have a job you have some sense ofresponsibility During my activity everyone was between the ages of20-22 The goal of the activity is to associate with whomever you goout with engage in conversation and to eat The emotional attitude ofparticipants are expected to take is
