The group project was devoted to the topic of anger and more specifically to the problems healthcare professionals encounter when dealing with angry clients Anger is a common and natural emotion and every person experiences it from time to time Some of the common causes of anger include frustration hurt annoyance disappointment harassment and threats For those who experience anger understanding what triggers it can help control it and express it productively For healthcare workers learning about anger can help them learn valuable techniques of how to recognize it and respond to it therapeutically While conducting research for this project we have found some interesting facts about anger that many people may not be familiar with We have also developed a questionnaire see Appendix that will be distributed at the beginning of our presentation and that can be used to determine whether a person has an anger problem In addition we came up with a set of skills that can be practiced by healthcare professionals when dealing with clients who are angry The objectives of our presentation can be defined as follows 1 to provide information on some previous anger related research 2 to outline some important signs phases and consequences of anger 3 to introduce skills and strategies that can to be used by healthcare professionals when dealing with an angry client According to some studies angry and stressed out people are much more likely to catch a cold Another study showed that men who have the highest levels of anger in response to stress were more than three times as likely to develop premature heart disease when compared with their less angry counterparts and over six times more likely to have a heart attack by age 55 Archives of Internal Medicine 2002 Physiologists who studied anger have found that some people are prone to anger by nature However since the way we respond to anger is a learned behaviour it is possible
