Mommy why dont I look like my friends I cried Because baby you are different not bad just different My father began his own ministry in 2000 which required my whole family to uproot to a foreign place called Calabasas or Calablackless as some residence entitled it At that time the most diversity I would see in a day would come from a book When one grows up in that type of in environment since the age of six thats all one knows In the Third grade when all the other children are starting to learn about the Civil Rights the student the teacher and occasionally the room parents would look back at me just for verification like Im the national ambassador for all things African American From First to seventh grade I can honestly same I was the only African American child in the class room at one time Sometimes when I did out those old yearbooks and flip through the pages I see nothing wrong but when I show my yearbooks to my family they comment oh you poor thing or You must have felt so out of place They had no idea that at that time the color barrier they had guarding their mindset was not constructed in my head nor were the blue prints laid out in preparation to do so When I first experienced racism in modern times I thought this must be a film and its time for me to make my acting debut which this would be my Academy award winning moment I was seven years when a student called me the N-word at that age no one really knew what it meant they just knew not to say it ever When I got home to tell my parents they looked at me and said Are you ignorant No I replied Are you less important than your classmates now sobbing I
