The four months I volunteered at the Discovery Museum Space and Science Center were months where i got to develope as an individual and further expand my social interaction and communication skills Volunteering alone helped me become more independent and open to the world around me I was given an opportunity to interact with people who lived a different lifestyle than what i was used to seeing in Natomas Their stories and input helped shape my views on a fast changing society The main job i performed at the museum was classroom assistant in the craft room Parents and their children would come in and complete the craft of the day When parents had several children with them I would help the kids with the crafts For example one weekend the craft was to make a polar bear pillow out of two sheets of paper For this craft i assisted the children in cutting the paper to the correct shape making sure the paper was aligned and asuring that they cut along side the lines I had to make sure that they were being careful with the siccors so they didnt endanger themselves or others When the crafts were finished I cleaned up after them and made sure there was enough supplies for the next group Volunteering has made me appreciate the hard work that people do for others As an individual i was able to grow by being able to freely interact with others become more independent and appreciate the simple things that Sacramento has to offer I have always been a person who is very reserved and to themselves I never draw attention to myself nor do i want it Because of this I have always avoided extensive communication with others When i signed up for volunteering at the Discovery Museum i knew i had to communicate with people but i never wpuld have imagined i would do so with so much ease
