Even though women have made rapid gains in the working world they still are victims of discrimination A womans level of education field of education and time spent in the work force all play a role in determining how much she gets paid In eariler years women stayed home to care and provide for their familiesMany women are changing their roles from homemaker to breadwinners and are choosing to enter the work force In spite of their efforts to penetrate the market women still face many obstacles that hinder their growth As women enter into the workforce they dont receive the same rights and opportunity as men do they assume youre saying they wont be able to succeed Women are affected in the work force by statistical discrimination occupational segregation and wage discrimination Statistical discrimination is judging individuals on the basis of the average characteristics of the group to which the person belong rather than on their own personal characteristics or productivity Bruce470This type of discrimination can result even when there is no intentional prejudice Therefore employers are not satisfying some taste for discrimination but rather are using gender race or ethic background as a very grude indicator of productio related attributes of workers which are not easily discernableBruce 470 Employers feel that they would make a better investment by hiring men They feel that women are prone to take more time off from work due to family problems and wouldnt be willing to relocate This is an example of the average characteristics for a group are being applied to individual members of that group The employer is falsely assuming that each and every woman worker has the same employment tendencies as the average woman Bruce471 The employer is making this assumption for all women They dont know which women would actually be more committed to their job Once a sterotype is placed on all women the women who are willing to work and
