Every year about 15 major earthquakes occur in the world All earthquakes can cause injury collapsing of buildings and even death Humans can cause earthquakes for example Fracking Fracking is when water is pushed down into the earth to obtain oil which causes a lot of pressure which can make earthquakes occur Fracking has been known to cause some of the most deadliest earthquakes Fracking also causes oil cavities to form which is where most of the water is dumped and the pressure is high A seismometer is what is used to measure anearthquakes magnitude Earthquakes can also happen in volcanic areas and are caused thereby tectonic faults and the movement of magma in volcanoes Most earthquakes that are abovethe magnitude of 5 are reported to the entire globe and not just that state An earthquake with a magnitude of 55 can be felt up to 300 miles On November 6 2011 an earthquakein Oklahoma was recorded with a magnitude of 56 which was the largest earthquake ever recorded in Oklahoma history The main cause of this earthquake was the injection of waterinto the ground which is Fracking Some people believe that all of these earthquakes that have occurred in the past few years is a coincidence There was a day that three differentearthquakes occurred in three different states including Colorado Virginia and California Most of the major earthquakes that happen occur around the Pacific Rim There have been alot of different methods used to try to predict when an earthquake will occur Still Seismologists have not yet been able to accurately predict the specific day or month of an earthquake There have been other ways to predict an earthquake Earthquake warning systems provide information on an earthquake in progress Therefore we can now warn people in that area if there is an earthquake in progress
