The United States Government for the majority has always actedswiftly and firmly against information leaks within their systemgeneralizing and categorizing all leakers into one category as an enemy ofthe country A treasonous category punishable by years within a federalprison or even death The government fails to realize that not all of itsinformation breaches have resulted in putting lives at risk There are manymatters to take into consideration when reviewing an individual whointentionally leaked information Matters such as the intent theinformation and the audience All are taken into effect before a federalcourt yet congressional representatives and others immediately attackleakers and there fear for national security Senator Susan Collinslambasted and bashed Snowden as a high school dropout who had littlematurity and had not successfully completed anything he hadundertakenPolitico Others like Senator Angus King declared Snowdenput lives at riskPolitico Both senators just days after the leakassaulted Snowden without any explanation other than to protect project thecriminality upon the leaker When in fact Snowden leaked informationshowing that it was the United States Government who engaged in criminalactivity According to chief foreign corespondent of the online journalWAToday Paul McGeough Despite the administrations lives are at riskhollering they are unable to cite a single instance of an intelligencesource being attacked as a result of the leaks WAToday Some willgeneralize and put leakers such as Bradley manning the individualresponsible highly secret military information to the organization WikiLeaks and Edward Snowden in the same category when in fact these are twodifferent situations Manning ethically and physically damaged the UnitedStates National Security while Snowden did not Leaks like Snowden havebenefited both the United States and the public in the past such as DanielEllsberg who revealed the Johnson administrations dishonesty during theVietnam war and W Mark Felt who leaked information about Watergate whichled to president Richard Nixons resignation Leakers such as theseincluding Snowden have all benefited or changed our country for the betterthrough their leaks
