I have observed classrooms at many schools however none compare to the instructors at Lexington Elementary School In the past I have observed special education classes on this campus My experiences at Lexington have always been positive This is exactly why I choose to return to the campus however I have never observed a regular education class throughout my educational career As I looked over the assignment I decided it was time for a new experience As the principal assigned me to Mrs Deckers class she informed me that Mrs Deckeris a favorite among the administrators This made me anxious to meet her as well as watch her teaching skills in action My first impression of the classroom was total chaos As I walked into the classroom the children were scattered everywhere Mrs Decker informed me that it was literacy time and the students were reading individuallyI walked around the classroom and heard some students reading allowed to themselves while others read silently Mrs Decker had a group of four children at a table working on their reading skills She had informed me that the children were esl students the class observed consisted of students where English was their second language I took advantage of this time to look around the classroom and observe the physical appearance The walls were filled with students work and educational postersThere were many low shelves that obtained educational resources such as books white boards laptops leapfrog reading systems magnets etc The teacher also had stacked storage shelves throughout the classroom with books at different levels On the back cabinets there were charts that listed each students reading and math level There was also a chart that had job listings and each students picture was placed next to a specific job These were rotated weekly Above the rug area lied the rules with a list of consequences There were also worksheets in film protectors such as math and vocabulary
