I think A Dream within a Dream by Edgar Allan Poe is a short poem that emphasizes about the lost of his wife Therefore Poe is in a bad emotional state when he wrote the poem Take this kiss upon the brow And in parting from you now Thus much let me avow You are not wrong who deem That my days have been a dream By reading this couple sentences in beginning of the poem I can tell that the author is deeply in love with someone and that person is no longer with him This poem consisted of abstract and concrete in which all good things that we experiences in this life will eventually disappear In the poem Poe wrote I stand amid the roar Of a surf-tormented shore And I hold within my hand Grains of the golden sand-- How few yet how they creep Through my fingers to the deepPoe describes himself standing by the roar of waves which used to express the lost of his wife and how he couldnt cope with the pain of losing her The golden sand is a metaphor for his dear yearning Poe holds a grain of golden sand and squeezes them in his hand as tightly as he can Then when he discovers that he cannot grasp them any tighter than he has already Poe is still enduring his wife lost that even in a dream he cant seem to hold on to her So in a dream we can do or wish anything and we are happy Therefore life is like a dream in a dream where heartache and limitations take over By reading this poem I learned that everything will eventually come to an end so just dream within a dream We should never take life for granted and we must not forget that as human we are not strong enough to endure more than what we are made to endure
