Time does not exist love is eternal death brings peace Siddhartha illustrates each of these themes in the novel Siddhartha Throughout his life Siddhartha was very independent This characteristic was demonstrated when he left his overbearing father to begin the life of the Samanas Hesse 10 There Siddhartha realized that he had learned every thing he could and that he wished to seek additional knowledge He decided to follow the Buddha and learn his teaches however he was unsuccessful As Siddhartha went through his unaccompanied journey towards Enlightenment he came to realize that he must let his loved ones go and reach my goal aloneor die Hesse 24 Foolishly he fell for a young prostitute named Kamala once they grew old the love died and Siddhartha left Siddhartha comprehends the fact that in order to grasp Enlightenment one must love everything rather than individualistic love After leaving Kamala Siddhartha went into a depressed state He felt empty and that he had wasted his time Once he reached a river he leaned in to commit suicide when suddenly the holy om that brought him back to his senses He remembers that enlightenment is more important than death He recognized that time does not exist and that he must become empty to start a new lifethis concept plays in to the theme mortality Kamala later returned to Siddharthas life by coincidence she got bitten by a deadly snake and passed However Siddharthas heart did not feel sorrow Siddhartha knew that she reached enlightenment and that she will come back in a new life In the novel Siddhartha by Herman Hesse the author eloquently intertwines time love and mortality in order to portray Siddharthas journey to Enlightenment
