IntroductionHuman resource management HRM is a business function that in concerned with the policies practices and systems of an organization that influences their employees behavior attitudes and performance HRM is simply the management of people in the workforce This process may raise questions about what the respectable rights are of the persons in each party employer and employee and what establishes fair treatment This is where ethics comes into play Ethics can be defined as many things but it is simply the study of human behavior with an emphasis on what is right and wrong Ethics in HRM is significant because it affects the managers and ultimately their decisions affect peoples jobs while also affecting their future careers and employment Ethics involves decisions of right or wrong so HRM should focus on how their decisions can affect themselves their employees and their company through ethicsThis paper will focus on the ethical theories that can be used in HRM to better the organization and their corporate social responsibilityProblemMany feel that businesses should not be concerned with ethics because business is business This is a long standing argument that many still feel very strongly about and they defend their position by saying that a business that wishes to be both ethical and profitable will fail That is not the case nor should it ever be The notion that business and ethics have no meeting place is being challenged with concern Many political groups researchers management professionals etc are coming out and stating that standards of conduct need to be evaluated and improved Rose 2007 p28 A business cannot enhance their credibility or value without ethical standards Examples of businesses without ethical standards include those involved in animal abuse and abuse of human rights HRM with unethical standards leads to the practices of off-shoring longer working hours and increased work stress Without ethical standards businesses turn to unethical practices and eventually hurt their company in the long run
