In Peace Begins with One Person by Ivory Harlow Harlow is a waitress at a dinner in Texas who develops profound appreciation for why kindnesses in such a powerful action after her meet with a not so fortunate woman Some ways in which Harlow portrays ethos is when she free heartedly gives this woman in the corner of the dinner free food and money without any understanding of the womens situation Harlow states I thought about her rotted teeth and tired eyes and how shed consumed enough caffeine for three people already I offered her a free pancake breakfast She asked to borrow bus fare and promised to return and pay me back I handed over tip money from my apron pocket Here Harlow shows her caring character despite the fact that she hardly knows the women Harlow uses logos as she tries to come to terms with what she did She says This kind of thing gets me wondering if something as simple as a short stack of pancakes can bring about a small shift in society Lastly pathos is shown when the women returns to the dinner The woman brings back the money she promised shed give back to Harlow and even offered to buy Harlow breakfastIn Living with Integrity by Bob Barret Barret talks about struggling with his identity as his integrity is affected because of the unalterable choices he ends up making in his life One way in which Barret uses ethos is when he discusses the two most important things he values in life He states At the end I had two cards One read Integrity and the other read My Family How could I choose between these two such a choice was unfair and impossible My initial thought was that I would give up my integrity because I love my daughters and would want their comfort at my death But then I would realize that dying without integrity
