Producer Will Schermerhorn of Blueberry Shoes Productions respectPSA was produced for Arc of Virginia to acknowledge people withlearning disabilities Before being given this assignment I had neverheard of him nor Arc of Virginia and their causes I am glad to havecome across this ad because I tend to say harmful thing to peoplewithout thinking of how it could make them feel In the PSA he createsa tactful tone in order to provide alternatives to using derogatoryterms to describe people with intellectual disabilities The purpose ofthis public service announcement is to use appeals of emotion andreason to persuade the audience to refer to those with intellectualdisabilities in a positive and respectful manner as they would want forthemselvesThe most effective argument made by this PSA is the appeal to theproofs pathos and logos Using the persuasive appeal pathos means thatthe ad must have some type of appeal to the audiences emotions and selfinterest Appealing to the emotions is the most widely used proofbecause it is believed to be more compelling to the audience Logo isthe logical appeal used to persuade an audience With the use of logosexamples of what the person who made the ad thinks is logical are givenLogos also can consist of statistics and facts about the subject athand Throughout many advertisements a variety of both pathos and logosare generally used This ad is not like the usual ads that are ran on daily television Itwas made strictly for an organization in Virginia whose purpose is toraise awareness and enhance the lives of people who have to live theirlives facing the daily criticism of having intellectual disabilitiesThe advertisement can be viewed by going to the organizations websiteor YouTube by simply typing respect PSA In this ad people manypeople with intellectual disabilities are shown doing things thattypical people do and they appear to be happy about it While thoseimages are being displayed positive words and phrases are being used todescribe the activities
