In contemporary view Japan is known as one of the wealthiest developedcountries earning its respect from the international community as oneof the largest donor of aid for disaster stricken countries It is alsosaid that it is statistically one of the most law-abiding countries interms of crime rate and public issues What is less known is the factthat many of the crimes committed such as rape abuse and harassmentand public issues such as youth refusal of attending school and youthsuicide rate are never addressed and seldom reported For an evenlesser known fact mix-raced Japanese individuals such as myself weretreated as a shame to its country and people my socialization can onlybe described as a deep seeded xenophobia that has remained in theJapanese culture for generations As a result rape torture homicideattempts and social neglect were all part of my experience for themajority of my childhood in Japan The reasons my life was like thisbecame clearer to me in my later teenage years but did not and stilldoes not give me a closure In order to make sense of what occurred inmy life I had to search and understand the history and sociology ofwhat I encountered My life was and still is full of sources sparkingme with sociological imagination even more so with my passion for heavymetal music I would like to present a small window for people to seewhat too place in Japan under the guise of ignorance and denial whichkeeps disturbing issues from ever being addressed in and especially fromoutside JapanI was born in Hartford Connecticut in October of 1984 and soon movedto Tokyo Japan when I was less than a year old Although my family andrelatives in Japan accepted me there were many at the time that viewedme as a taboo and a shame to its people for being a mix-racedCaucasian-Japanese Historically Japan was an isolated country untilthe Western world introduced its presence
