Those Who Cannot Change Their Minds Cannot Change AnythingAlbert Einstein had a famous saying about infinity when someday in a conference a reporter asked him about the most infinite things in the world He replied by saying that there are two infinite things the universe and human stupidity and Im not sure about the universe This might be a humor or deep analysis of him to human behavior but he was definitely correct about the infinity of human stupidity We as individuals tend to be biased towards our various social identities such as sex race ethnicity sexual orientation gender age socioeconomic class religion and ability As we convince ourselves to believe in characteristics that are estbilshed by us and based on irrational explanations or beliefs And so these notions start to root in peoples minds creating several perceptions of individuals or groups that are constructed through cultural or social practices Hence the concepts of privilege and power begin to entrenchamong people initiating racial terms such as privileged and unprivileged group based on religion ability-level and raceUnfortunately this notion is existed in most of us if not all Personally I have used to perceive myself as the most superior intelligent and sophisticated person on the Earth I used to think that I am blessed and better than most of the people because I belong to certain group where we have our own religion traditions and costumes Moreover the arrogant outlook which I have had on people from different countries and religions But since I have come to the US my perspective on the diverse societies has suddenly changed and started to question myself about my religion ability-level and race by defining my relation to power and privilege This conflict has occurred because I was living in Iraq where we all belong to one group as Arabs and Muslims but when I came to the US I started dealing with people who have different religions
