Preparing is always an important element to the quality of experience enjoyed in any adventure Any such adventure requires faith that God is with us Regardless of how well equipped or prepared Cross-country hiking is an arduous task requiring physical stamina enough supplies and the right equipment I know because I hiked approximately 2000 miles from Detroit Michigan to Venice beach California on five separate occasions I found a hike this long depending on the route taken and the pace of travel requires being able to walk at least fifteen miles a days for almost six months It is important to bring equipment such as a tent or tarp for shelter from extreme weather and some sort of bedding Gathering food sometimes requires fishing gear and something with which to cook and eat It is a good idea to bring Iodine tablets to purify water and tools such as a piece of flint matches or a lighter to start a fire for boiling water cooking and heat For food and safety knowledge of all edible plants and wild life indigenous to the land being traversed is invaluable Knowing from personal experience that accidents are more than likely going to happen a first aid kit is highly recommended and can also be used in unconventional ways in certain survival situations This is some of the most essential equipment for survival of course more equipment is available but it all has to be transported in or on a back-pack so the amount of items taken depends on how much weight can be carried by the individual embarking on such a long hike A lack of faith that God is with you will hinder your willingness to take that first step I found that God always provided everything I needed Everyone seemed to know God personally with me being the exception I believed in God but I didnt know Him intimately Through the love of God His
