To many of us here on earth faith and religion are difficultconcepts to grasp understand and explain Emily Dickinsons analogypresented me with an idea of how she interprets faith and an example ofhow to vocalize faith to other people She compared faith to a bridgein two different circumstances She referenced that because faith issomething we cannot see hear or feel it is like a bridge with nopiers but conversely when one has faith that is strong it is like abridge built of steel Her analogy helped me understand how faith actsas the passageway between reality and the theological world Withoutfaith one cannot have a connection with God Each time I read thepoem I understand her comparison even more She wants the reader tounderstand her opinion that once a persons faith is strong their soulis secure and the bridge can then be traversed The stronger the faithof a person the stronger the relationship of the person with God Without faith one cannot build a relationship because the bridge willnot exist This is why faith must be the first part of the journey andthe most importantFaith - is the Pierless BridgeSupporting what We seeUnto the Scene that We do not - Too slender for the eyeIt bears the Soul as boldAs it were rocked in SteelWith Arms of Steel at either side -It joins - behind the VeilTo what could We presumeThe Bridge would cease to beTo Our far vacillating FeetA first Necessity
