All These Things Ive Done by Gabrielle Zevin is a wonderful novel about a young girl making decisions that will shape her and her familys lives Many of the characters and the setting of the novel are very thought-out Everything in the novel is always clear and easy to understand The characters are always going through a hard time Anya learns how to deal and cope with hard life situations Anya Balanchine is a strong independent smart and sneaky sixteen year old girl She is stuck with an uncle who is always trying to hurt her family She has to take care of her older brother Leo her younger sister Natty and her very old grandmother Galina Thankfully Galina has a nurse Imogen who helps her and helps look after the children Anya also has Mr Kipling her fathers attorney to look after her Anyas best friend Scarlet helps to get Natty to and from school safely when Anya cannot Leo her brother got in a car accident with their mom when he was younger The novels story takes place in a city where chocolate is illegal This is very important because Anyas family sells chocolate The Balanchines had many enemies who want to hurt the family Anyas mom died and Leo has brain damage but he looks perfectly fine Anyas father also died Their grandmother Galina is their legal guardian but when she dies Leo becomes their guardian Anya worries about her boyfriendfriends father who is a cop will take Anya and Natty to a foster home Win likes and respects Anya unlike Gable Gable is Anyas ex-boyfriend who was very disrespectful to her Anya has been through quite a lot of difficult life decisionsAnya lives in a city in which chocolate is illegal but her family still sells and buys chocolate She must take care of her grandmother who is dying her brother who is mentally challenged and her sister who thinks she
