When the subject of purchasing and identity is brought up we as individuals strive to ask ourselves the question how does the purchase of the clothes we wear define our identity The answer to this question may have to do with the factors that push us towards fashion The articles Labels Clothing and Identity Are You What You Wear and Fashion Social Identity A Cultural Phenomenon stresses the link between ones identity and fashion choice These articles indicate that fashion often mediates an individuals social class sexuality gender etc to the rest of the world I have noticed that these fashion markers of who I am deeply related to in context time and place and are often used to present more prominently certain aspects of who I amEver wondered the statement You are what you wear how much true is it On the scale of credibility where it stands I look around my surroundings and see words and phrases walking everywhere How Pretty simple for me the clothes speak I am a very fast believer that you actually are what you wear The credibility of this sentence stands firm and high for me But I do not talk from other people perception and observation People could always misinterpret other peoples clothing and eventually put a label on them An almost every day example is donning the women who wear hijab as terrorists Brutal senseless murder of Shaima Alawadi is just one example of such label She was wearing a hijab when she was murdered and a note was placed by her body saying terrorist Michelle Parrinello-Cason 2012 uses this incident strongly to nullify the labeling in her blogOur clothes depict who we actually are and from where do we belong People find it immensely easy to place others culturally and religiously by judging from their clothes Vir Shete 2012 writes about the clothes identifying our culture in an article for her blog She says
