The state of rage in human beings originates from the fear of loss the loss of control the loss of our humanity and the loss of lifethe fear of deathif each of us was forced to fend for ourselves In the civilizations that David Moodys Hater and Juan Carlos Fresnadillos 28 Weeks Later create people do not only fear others they also fear themselves They fear whom they may have to become to survive These worlds bring into question the very nature of what it means to be humanMoody and Fresnadillo create cultures where an unhealthy contamination becomes the controlling power over society Moody creates a world where a large part of the population is suddenly taken by the desire to kill and once the infected are affected they lose all humanity and resort to their most basic nature Fresnadillo portrays the rebuilding and aftermath that occurs once the rage virus inflicts the United Kingdom The chain of events in contracting these viruses is a constant cycle that weaves together infection and its psychology fear and rage It is a process of internalized fear becoming an externalized rage and culminating with destruction of humanity These evils can consume us whether physically morally or psychologically The only solution in 28 Weeks Later is to kill those who have changed into zombies to unleash rage as a way to survive In Hater Danny can only assuage his fears if he becomes as good or better a killer than those he fears Once a dose of fear is added to their emotional palette they must destroy or be destroyed There is no stopping until humanity is eradicated and rage that grows out of fear fear of the constant threat of non-survival is the emotion that will do the work The entire culture in both works is built based off of fear However those whose instinctual fear of the haters or zombies engulfs them are the ones who ultimately
