Women have come a long way to get where they are today in the world Even today there are still many feminist women who are fighting for what rights they believe women should have According to the Women Gender studies at Eastern Kentucky University feminism is a multi-disciplinary approach to sex and gender equality understood through social theories and political activism Feminism This means that women should be treated a potentially equal as men in society In most places in the world it is the opposite of that Men are being treated higher and women do not have a say in anything In the short story The Story of an Hour one can interpret it through the lens of feminism The author Kate Chopin portrays what it is like to be a woman in the late nineteenth century Kate grew up living with three smart and intelligent women which happened to be her great-grandmother grandmother and mother Wyatt At a young age she was heavily influenced by women and what rights women had Kate had seen first-hand how women were treated while living with those three women for two years Kate had also experienced a lot of death during her childhood As she had gotten older she got married to Oscar Chopin who was the son of a wealthy family in Louisiana Wyatt Chopin was already an independent woman before she met her husband and he respected that Oscar Chopin had a store that her ran but soon was taken over by Kate after he died She then sold the store and moved with her children back to St Louis with her mother who later died Soon after he mothers death Kate began to writeOne of Chopins most famous stories is The Story of an Hour In this story it is expresses the freedom of a woman and how she could now live for herself after her husbands death but then comes to find
