Being a firefighter is not just an ordinary job it is a Brotherhood On September 11 2001 firefighters from all over showed acts of heroism as they faced the tragedy that struck America Three hundred and forty three of Americas bravest men lost their lives on this horrific day while trying to save the lives of others involved in the attacks of 911 Firefighters showed acts of courage determination and humility as they faced the most tragic event in Americas history September 11 2001 started out just like any other beautiful morning in New York City as everyone made their commutes to work or school Tommy Dunn had just started his 24 hour shift as one of the other guys yelled at him to turn on the TV Turning on the TV all Tom could see was one of the towers on fire not having any idea of what happened Tom watched in disbelief About a minute passed and the alarms started going off along with the ringing of the telephone The alarm meant it was their time to take action and get on the job Grabbing their gear and jumping in the truck off they went Seeing all of the damage smoke bodies and debris Tommy could not believe that someone had actually crashed a plane into the South Tower Just as he walked up to Liberty Street all he could hear was what sounded like a freight train Little did he know that another plane was about to hit the North Tower Running for cover Tom tried to stay calm and find a safe place to get before all the debris of the other tower tumbled down on top of him Visibility was zero at this point and trying to breathe only caused gagging and choking on the debris filled air When it felt safe to move all Tom could remember was walking around blindly trying to find other men from his fire
