There are five main theories in Psychology that help us understand theways of the brain The five main theories are Psychodynamic humanisticbehavioral cognitive and evolutionary Psychodynamic theory is alsoknown as psychoanalytic and is based on how behavior rises fromunconscious drives and conflicts Humanistic theory is based on thethought of self-determination self-realization and self-actualizationBehavioral theory is the idea of how we learn observable responsesCognitive-behavior therapy combines cognitive and behavioral therapyCognitive theory is how we process store and retrieve informationEvolutionary theory is how the survival of traits has promoted thesurvival of genes These five main theories all help us understand theway we functionThe psychodynamic theory was originally created Sigmund Freud Most ofFrueds theories have been disregarded though Psychodynamic therapydeals with unresolved issues from the past The goal of psychodynamictherapy is to help individuals recognize define and overcome theirpsychological difficulties People use defense mechanisms like denialand repression to deal with these unresolved issues These defensemechanisms are an unhealthy way of dealing with these problems I usedto use repression a lot when i was younger I would pretend that itdidnt bother me that my dad neglected me as a child until it became toomuch to handle I had to come to terms with the fact that he didnt wantme and move on This is a good example of the psychodynamic theoryThe humanistic theory as I said before is the thought ofself-determination self-realization and self-actualizationSelf-actualization is the process of fulfilling our potential CarlRogers was the developer of this theory This theory says that healthypeople strive for self-determination and self-realization These peoplehave learned enough about life to be compassionate The humanistictheory deals with genuineness acceptance and empathy Genuineness isthe thought of being open with your feelings Empathy is where you shareothers feelings and you understand how they feel Acceptance is knowingyoure accepted even knowing your failures When I dont do well on atest I know that Im still accepted I also accept the fact that Ididnt do well and know that
