The United States of America is the home of many historical heroes but none of them hold a more popular status than the heroes of the American Revolution One of the most extraordinary Revolutionary War heroes was a jagged little guerrilla with the name of Francis MarionHe moved like a fox through the swamps of eastern Carolina disappearing to baffle the British earning him the name Swamps Fox Marion would hide during the day and emerge clandestinely after the sunsets He would strike at midnight scaring and slaughtering the British startling them into panic Marion is one of the men that helped mold Americas history by fighting for independence during the American Revolution From the beginning of his life to the end Francis Marion lived his life to the fullest With courage he built a reputation that would last and tales that would be told centuries later Francis Marion was born in Berkeley County of South Carolina in 1732 Born into a French family who decided to settle into England Marion grew up healthy and had a happy childhood When he was only fifteen years old and with the permission from his parents he decided to become a sailor He sailed for the West Indies and was living his dream It was not until a whale attacked their ship when things went very wrong Marion and the crew escaped with an open boat and were stranded for five consecutive days without food or water There was a little dog that had swum to their boat in which they killed and ate including drinking his blood Two men died but on the sixth day Marion and the crew made it to shore He made it home safely but he was so traumatized that he swore off the sea He settled down with his parents and succeeded in farm work which would eventually lead him into military workFrancis Marion was almost twenty-five when he decided to
